The Miracle of Recovery

My name is David and I am a recovering addict. I started using drugs regularly when I was 12. Before I got clean I could not stop using crack cocaine. I was smoking 500 dollars worth of crack a night, not sleeping, eating, showering, or taking care of myself. I was emotionally, mentally, spiritually, physically and socially bankrupt when I got clean. I could not stop. I was out of control. I wanted to stop but did not know how. I had already experienced drug counseling and jail several times. I decided to go to a 12 step meeting. Since my first meeting I have never had to use any kind of mind altering chemical. I have been clean for over 6 years. Through the 12 steps and the program I have changed my entire life. I am responsible, honest, hopeful, caring, genuine, respectful, and most of all I am clean. I have a great job and my family has forgiven me. I found hope in the 12 step fellowship I attended. Recovery is possible but you have to want to make the changes. I continue to work the program on a daily basis. Today I know I am a miracle and I thank God that I am clean. I am living a life that is beyond my wildest dreams and it is because I surrendered to the program of the 12 steps. My life is a blessing and I pray for other addicts around the world.
