Myself

Sorry, am not from the states still I want to share and get some advice from drugfree. I started using heroin at 17, now I am 35 with 3 sons and a daughter. I've been on and off on drugs for the last 3 yrs, as and when reality hits me. I know I am to provide for my family but still since the stuff is available like any legal commodity, it’s difficult to let go especially when you realize that you have no income to provide for your family and let your kids go to school like every kids ought to. Please tell me how I can get the resolve to let go permanently.

I have never used drugs or wanted to however I did hear that the best way is to get on methodone or suboxone. Every time you have a moment to yourself is going to be a potential for relapse for a while. You need to disconnect from the people you associated yourself with, that group that would have shot up with you. Delete your phone contacts and go to regular meetings, meetings are both beneficial and detrimental.
They are beneficial in the sense that you can see how far others have come from their addiction yet can also be detrimental as it may only take one who you got to know at the meeting to suggest it.

I’m not from the states either. I live in Europe and here we have a very good methadone treatment program. It has helped me with my heroin problem for about 15 years now. Can that be something for you too?
